ATI cuts 6950 allocation

Is that not the picture from the other thread.

The guy had to remove it for NDA reasons, maybe you should do him a favour.

the thing i keep asking myself is
why would magicroundabout and raven both say what they said about info from their sources

i wouldn't have posted what i was told if i wasn't 100% sure it was acurate.

Trouble is as with any form of info it must be taken with a pinch of salt unless you've seen the results for yourself. But i have no reason why he would lie. He was 100% with the 5870 info i posted

Lots of misinformation going around, a day a go the 6950 was a 1gb card, as the image above shows it will ship as a 2GB and maybe even 1GB,

What so if you enable the 580s "turbo switch" also known as overclocking, then that will itself pull ahead.

Together with most of the enthusiast community, I am just speculating what the switch is being used for. With the leaked slides showing that you can peg power consumption dynamically with Cayman, I am just speculating that the power management can dynamically clock/ enable and disable units whilst staying within the TDP set. BTW 480GTX Lightning has a similar switch but that only selected different BIOSs.

There are speculations suggesting that normal power consumption during gaming is around 190W whilst the board max is ~245W. IIRC, 245W is around the normal power consumption of the 580.

Dynamic overclocking is also potentially much more flexible than standard overclocking, even if standard overclocking is taken to the extremes of having different overclocks for different apps/ games.

On the front of 1GB vs 2GB, a 1GB and 2GB variant of the 6950 would make sense to me. It would allow AMD to drop the 6950s by at least USD50, and we could have a very good performer at the USD250 to USD300 level.

i dont doubt you or raven magic,
what im saying is, you have been told this from the horses mouth so to speak, why would they misinform you ? if the cards turn out to be nothing like what you have been told ?

and

with regards to the switch, who is going to turn it on for half a day and off for the other, depending on what it does. seems to be a bit of a hassle to unscrew your case, flick a switch, screw the panel back on, only to do it all again when you turn the switch off again. ( what ever it does ) maybe its the nvidia kill switch, or super uber blow me out of the water switch, who knows

Guys i would appreciate some advice - the last gfx card i bought was a 8800GTX, but think ill be picking up a 6970 this week. What is the minimum PSU you think will be needed to run this? i know we dont have full specs yet, but in keeping with, say the 5870 or 6870, what will be the minimum required??

i have a HX520 and am thinking this should be more than enough considered it ran a power hungry 8800gtx!!

You should wait until we get reviews and "official" specs i.e Wednesday. We only have speculations on power, which cannot be used as a recommendation at this stage.

Fair enough, may just get one on release and see how it goes.

It was from the other thread, and is still under NDA. we dont want a forum member getting in trouble

do we know the REAL reason why the launch was delayed ?
just so happened to come after 580's launch, thats without the 570 in the frame
if the 6970 is marginally above 570 im gonna be ****** off
surely they are not going to have nothing to compete with nvidias top gun ? ( single gpu ) a card that apparently is a year late from what it should have been

Wow nice one, he's under NDA, job well done sherlock. Its been cropped, it's just some old 6950 box.

if thats in refernece to my comment - Whatever - and who was complaining about personal attacks earlier? yeh - it is 'just some box'.

whatever happened to this forum being friendly? You would have thought it was a matter of life or death on here sometimes
