ATI cuts 6950 allocation

Looking at them specs I think the 6950 and 6970 are going to priced very close together. If not I would buy the 6950 and clock it.

if thats legit then the 6950 has a higher % of the 6970's shaders compaired to the 5850 @ 1440 & 5870 @ 1600, although the vRAM is quicker on the 6970.. meh, wont add many extra FPS, so i think a 6950 clocked to 6970 core speed will be closer to 6970 speeds than a 5850 was to a 5870 clock for clock

looks similar to 58** launch 5850 wasn't far away from 5870. looking at performance leaks if they tend to be legit , if the price corresponds with performance.

6950 for 220 ~ 250
6970 for 290 ~ 320

buy 6950 and clock it to 6970 performance

The 6950 will have to be more than £50 over the 6870 unless they drop 6870 pricing back down to £179 (release day)

The 6970 will have to come in under 570 pricing too.

Unless the new design and the 4D shaders and drivers show some massive gains

Unless AMD are somehow pulling the wool over everyones' eyes, the 69xx series are going to be a major disappointment regardless of the selling price.

I can confirm for this launch that it will be a hard launch, we have unreal amounts of stocks, enough to last us throughout XMAS and January, not only that the price will make people very happy for the performance these cards will bring to the table with fantastic availability. :)

Gibbo has stated the 6970 will be 360-400 notes.

Now given the price the the 6870s are going for something that is double the cost is going to be a lot quicker, otherwise no-one is going to be 'very happy'.

Gibbo is a businessman. Neither is he going to lie to us all, OR, more importantly buy enough cards to build a pyramid bigger than ocuk headquarters if no-one is going to buy them.

Roll on wednesday, i only hope one will fit into my case.

People will buy them no matter what as can be seen with the current 580 pricing(If you can get hold of one)

Yeah that's the fastest GPU on the planet, if this performance holds true then the 6970 will have to be priced at or slightly below the 570 prices to sell.

If AMD's new tech cannot beat the one year old toaster (GTX480) then it will be a huge fail. If it cannot beat the 580 it is still a fail, even if it does cost substantially less.

Why exactly? Did the 5870 beat the 480? No, that was left upto the 5970. same thing for the 4870 vs the gtx 280. Why is this time around so different? I think people have let rumours magically morph into facts and are expecting far too much.

GTX 480 was released at the end of March so hardly a year old and and at 820 Mhz matches the 580. I wish you would stop referring to it as a toaster, I could rub my nuts on it whist playing crysis and it would offer no more than a mild scalding.

Yeah it's been over 15 months since the 5870 and this is the best we got, a card that sometimes faster than a stock 480. Let's hope the reviews prove these Germans can't install drivers properly.

I can assure you that AMD doesn't hold as much brand loyalty as Nvidia.

They have to be either priced competitively or become new kings of performance. IMO both can happen at the same time.

Seriously? GTX480 came out 6 months after HD5970 iirc correctly. It was Nvidia that had to fit it in the market, not the other way around. HD5970 is still the king of performance.
