ATI cuts 6950 allocation

Gibbo has stated his results are a lot better than the Germans.

Yeah because he wants to sell a warehouse full of them.:D

Everything those German boys have posted is confirmed.

It flies in Tesselation compared to 5870.
It loses and wins some against an 480/570

So what sort of performance are we looking at then, 480GTX / 570GTX?

Seems to be around that level, but above the GTX480/GTX570 level more often than it's below.

More than that, it's hard to say. It doesn't look to be matching the GTX580 in too many circumstances though.

The 5870 was launched at £300 and it DESTROYED its's fastest rival, the GTX285. Even the 5850 at £200 comfortably beat the GTX285.

Now it seems that AMD are applying reverse logic to what made the 5800's so successful. The 6970 will not beat the GTX580 and appears to struggle against GTX570, but it will be priced substantially above GTX570. On top of this 6900 TDP is much closer to GTX580 than 5800 was to GTX480.

At the moment it looks like AMD have left all of the performance bunnies in the hat, and that this will be a big fail. Prices really need to be sub £300 for the 6970 and sub £220 for 6950 to be anywhere near as tempting as 5800.

6970 = GTX570 (priced at £260-£300).
6950 = >GTX470 / <GTX570 (priced at £180 upwards).

If AMD release these at high prices, I expect NVidia to raise their pricing soon after. Perhaps a little price fixing between the two companies??? It's been done before.

its gonna have to be 260 - 280
the 570 is far more appealing

The problem with a 6970 been 260-280 is the whole line would need to take a price drop, in rough we already have this

6850 = 150.00
6870 = 200.00

So where would this go?

6950 =220.00??
6970 =260.00??

They are far to near to each other, we still dont have firm speed in the real world, i would guess, come wednesday we will be seeing something like this.

6850 = 150.00
6870 = 200.00
6950 = 265.00
6970 = 325.00

AMD have ****** up big time i think
what have did aim for with the 6970 ?, what was its purpose ?

Seems logical what you are saying. I was counting on AMD to beat Nvidia on the fastest single gpu card:(. Seems to me that the scenario of PS2 success and PS3 failure to dominate playing out for AMD:(.

Depends, if its close to the 580 in games while substantially cheaper they haven't done too badly... doesn't look like its going to live upto the "R300" claims tho.
