ATI Directx 10 - When?

As title really. I'm considering upgrading my system very soon, but I don't want to invest in current gen cards if there's going to be a direct x 10 solution in the next month or so.

I've googled and used the forum search but info is a bit dry. Anyone know when we can expect a directx 10 offering from ATI?

While I'm at it any solid info would be great.

AFAIK ATi's R600 DX10 card will be out in Feb. (that may have changed but it's the last I heard)

Nvidia's... well you should know, there are like 2-3 ma-hoo-sive threads on it. ;)
 
So what's Vista about?

Not heard much of it.

I know (well think) its a new OS from Mick Rows, but apart from that????

Yes its a new operating system, written on a brand new kernel, infact it is pretty much detatched from the legacy windows NT platform entirely. It supports a new graphics driver model (WDDM - Windows Display Driver Model), and this is the reason that DX10 is a "vista only" release (as its been written conforming to WDDM).

It sports some brand new interface features (almost reminiscent of Mac OS X ;)), and is geared far more towards providing a full multimedia experience rather than just being a "workstation".
 
Vista is currently aiming to release to manufacture on Nov 8. OEMs and volume customers will get it in Nov, retail and general availabilty will be Jan (there's no way you can get time in DVD/CD/Packaging plants etc in the run up to crimbo this late)
 
It might just be worth me investing in directx 9 hardware now and then looking at directx 10 stuff around xmas next year.

A fairly good dx9 card will last you for a while. Also you will be paying top doller for a dx10 card when it is first released (£400+). Depending on what resolution you game at i would go for a x1800 or x1900 to see you through for a year.

I'm thinking along the lines of a x1950 pro. Assuming they clock well I should see it lasting me a nice while.

I would look at the x1900 offerings but I like the idea of hdcp compliancy. Plus the price is right on the x1950 pro.

Well you say that, *** first time I downloaded it it crashed before even getting to the install bit.

2nd download I burned at 1x and it installed fine to crash and then corrupt something which stopped it booting again.

I tried both 32 and 64bit versions, neither worked so that 0/10 from me of it...
