Hey guys upgraded from 4870 and got this sapphire 5850 Venom-X 1024mb card, worked fine, but I did a few benchmarks and the card was a lot slower compared with the benchmarks of other users so i got advised to start windows in safe mode, run driver sweeper and delete all the ATI drivers on it, then install the drivers again, but now, when ever I try to install the drivers the display driver installation keeps failing:confused:

ATI Display Driver
Final Status: Fail
Version of Item: 8.762.0.0000
Size: 90 Mbytes

I have tried literally everything I can think of, tried installing 10.4 drivers still same error, tried restarting multiple times, but no luck, please help this is so frustrating:mad:

I really want to say driver sweeper is the problem. Was the 5850 running normal speeds before you uninstalled the drivers?

bloody driver sweeper, has caused me all sorts a problems this week, deleted some of my drivers by mistake, taken this crap off,it may not be driver sweeper as ive had times like that when the drivers wouldnt install so i jst went back to a older one and that fixed it,its the main reason i sold my 5870 cf setup last week and bought 2 gtx480...good luck mate

Ok uninstall the card from device manager, restart machine and let windows install the generic driver, restart machine, download latest drivers from the Amd website and let the install manager run the install and should be ok after a reboot..:)

Oh and never ever run driver sweeper or anything like it they cause nothing but bother, I have been installing driver versions over driver versions and just let the install manager do its stuff and its always ok.

Try deleting the 'ATI Technologies' folder and installing it to Program Files/ATI :-)

It's a work around that was mentioned to me a while ago. Might not help but worth a shot.

I had already handed it into overclockers and they will test to see if there is a fault which I am pritty sure there is as other users have told me they had to rma the card because of the same problem display driver not installing.

Not a chance is it hardware related. It worked perfectly fine until you used Driver Sweeper (there could have been any number of reasons why you were returning slightly low benchmark figures).

I had this a few weeks back, don't remember exactly what it was as I fixed it by googling an error message. But it involved uninstalling, booting into safe mode, deleting c:\program files\ati * and installing a Microsoft Visual Studio runtime.

They wern't slightly lower, they were a good 8-9FPS lower in heaven benchmark, that's when I got advised to uninstall the drivers, and it doesn't mean a card isn't faulty if it doesn't work correctly after a few days, they can easily develop faults after a short time of usage.
