I have a very frustrating problem that has never occured befire!

Running an old second PC with XP and an ATI X800 PRO GFX card.
As the driver was out of date and not playing ball with a couple of games my son was playing I decided to upodate the driver.

Every time I try I get the message "Setup did not find a driver compatible with your hardware or OS"

I have tried older drivers and get he same.
Cleaned with driver sweeper
Tried forcing fromn control panel

I can see the card in the device manager so whats going on?
I now can't install any driver for it.

Please help!

I used to get that problem sometimes after using driver sweeper, as sometimes it doesn't clean properly (leaves stuff behind), so you can get any drivers at all on, only way i fixed that was a full windows re-install.

latest drivers won't work now as they stopped supporting older cards than the 2000 series, i think the 9.2's were the last set for the older ones, can't remember now,so have to be those, or prior drivers.

I would do a full re-install of XP, not only will the games probably run a few frames quicker due to less clutter on the hard drive and old files lingering. It will result in less issues due to only having the latest ATI drivers on your PC.

Might be worth trying the last legacy drivers which was 9.8 (Fixed version of 9.3) which allow the older cards to work with win7 for instance.

Safe mode and delete everything ATI, then regclean and regedit search and delete everything ATI

You may have to do it a couple of times

get compatible driver and Just install the driver first and control panel after reboot
beware there was some issues with later ATI drivers not having the correct inf files for some of the X800's even though they will support the hardware

Thanks guys...I'll try a reg clean and much older driver first. If I have no sucess then it's out with the XP CD and a full format!

OK I have sorted it as much as possible-

Cleaned out the registery and drivers in safe mode and installed an older driver pre 8. rev

Thanks for the help.
