ATI driver help needed

So I recently bought a HD6990 and installed the latest ATI drivers (11.4s) and catalyst profiles. The problem, is that any drivers newer than the 10.4s cause the Sims 3 and Dead Space to lock up either before the main menu or during navigation of the main menu (sometimes even with a BSOD and having to manually shut off the PC).

- I had the same problem with my HD5970
- A fresh install of windows has not fixed the problem
- As far as I am aware all of my drivers are up-to-date

Based on the above I assume it is a problem with the ATI drivers. Anyone got any ideas? Was something added to the drivers around the time of the 10.4s?

Specs (and in sig):
Intel Q9550
Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard
8Gb Ram
Asus D2X
HD6990

Would really appreciate help, as before I could get away with older drivers, now I can't.

My next thing to try is to disable one GPU in CCC. Might have to try diabling others things too?

Check the services.msc for 'AMD External Event Utility' (or similar) and disable it, see if that helps. It has helped to (somewhat) stabilise my ATi issues.

Motherboard drivers up to date? Have you emailed AMD support?

Motherboard bios and chipset are up-to-date.

I have a couple of things to try next - disabling catalyst AI and updating DirectX runtime files. Will also try what VidX suggested. I am away this evening, but will try tomorrow.

Didn't think of AMD support. That might be the next step after troubleshooting. Good suggestion :)

Have tried changing settings in CCC, disabling 'AMD External Event Utility' and checked that all drivers are up-to-date. Next step is contact AMD support and EA support.

Yep, fully patched. Sounds very similar to this - http://www.kn00tcn.net/site/cities-in-motion-startup-crash-fix/

Basically an OpenGL/crossfire issue. I say it sounds similar, since they mention the 10.4 drivers and the same startup problem. Will have a play about with the dll file.

Edit: Fixed by disabling Catalyst AI - a little long winded though. Will install an older version of CCC.

Edit2: Even easier than that, setting AI to high Quality fixed it!!!
