Ati driver problem. Help!

I installed my new msi 5850 today but have had no end of problems with the ati drivers.

Basicly the card works under the standard windows 7 driver but when I install the ati one and reboot all I get is my windows desktop picture. No icons, taskbar, mouse pointer or even task manager.

The only way to get back into windows is to start up in safe mode and remove the driver from task manager.

Anyone seen this before or can offer any advice.
 
It could be that you are seeing the second screen of a dual screen configuration, try plugging into the other graphics card socket.
 
I just relised I had my tv plugged into the card also via hdmi so it was using that as the main desktop and my monitor as extended. Stupid me.
