ATI Driver Woes

Just finished building my new system, with an XFX 5830 and while I was finishing off installing drivers for various things, the GPU drivers from the CD crashed and restarted (according to windows), a while later they failed again and I had to restart myself.

So I went onto the XFX site, downloaded the latest drivers and during installation, the system BSOD'd. On restarting the system I attempted to install them again, but I now receive an error every time I finish installation:

Now right clicking on the desktop no longer has a Catalyst Control Center option, when I do open it from the start menu I only have Pinned, Presets and Hydravision tabs and my max resolution I can choose for my 1900x1080 monitor is 1400 x 1050.

How am I supposed to fix this?

Yes, exactly the same issues. Infact, I just uninstalled everything using the ati launcher program itself, and now upon reinstalling everything I get the same issues, but CCC will no longer open at all.

Have you thought about letting windows find the latest AMD driver? It helped me on more than one occasion. Also, do you have the most recent microsoft .net windows updates?

Well i'd at least rather be running the correct resolution.

Edit: Well I tried to install the drivers from the CD again, however now it is "unable to detect an XFX product" and refuses to install anything. Honestly, I am considering wiping the O/S and starting again.

Yeah I do. I really don't understand this. It is actually now allowing me to change the resolution correctly now, but I didn't do anything differently. I quite dislike ATI drivers, they always seem to be problematic for me.
