ATI drivers could not be found on restart?

Hi,

I just rebooted my PC after using it this morning, only to find it to be displaying poorly with low resolution, and no 1650 resolution setting to choose? due to what seems like no ATI drivers. I tried ATI CCC help and it stated I had no drivers installed? Yet all was fine this morning?

I rebooted with no change.

Have there been any updates today which could have caused this? I had to do a system restore to yesterday which cured the problem? Any ideas what just happened?

Ok, this has again happened, three times in total now.

On each occassion I have switched on the computer to find the resolution wrong, and some flickering, basically as if no ATI drivers are installed or recognised?

I am unable to solve this without havin to resort to going back a couple of days with system restore, which solves the problem for a couple of days.

It was suggested I should re-install the drivers, but I do not see how this is going to tell me what is causing this, nor how it will cure it if it's the same drivers?

What can cause a system to not see the ATI drivers, I have switched off automatic updates to see if that helps, any ideas?

Steve

Edit, card is an AGP HIS Radeon 3850 with hotfix drivers Catalyst 8.5 due to the drivers on the install disc not working, Windows XP Pro 32bit with SP3. This has been working fine for months up until now, even with Linux.

The card being loose in the socket, did you move the PC around a lot before it started happening?

Have you tried Cat 8.7 (new out now, I assume it supports AGP cards)?

Hi,

The graphics card is working OK when this problem arrises I guess as I still get a pictures but ATI controls says there are no drivers installed?

I have not yet trie 8.7 drivers, hoping to hear if anyone with the same AGP card as me is using them without probs.

I have not had this problem in the last couple of days, touch wood, and I have turned off automatic updates to see if this may be causing the problem?

This happened again today, and Windows update, which I had turned Off, had turned itself back on?

Not happy.

I tried ATI's latest 8.7 drivers which did not work with my HIS Radeon 3850 AGP card. At this moment I feel regardless of excuse ATI and HIS offer ***** support and have not got a ****** clue about service and product driver developement.
