ATI drivers, reliable?

How good/reliable are the ATI drivers of late? I recall from several years ago lots of driver related problems.

I've been on NVIDIA ever since but looking to move back to ATI with the new DX11 cards.

Cheers.

They are pretty reliable, obviously there will be the odd bug with new cards. They scored better in a test than nvidia drivers recently. They dont have the issue of different profiles or settings needed for every game, and they also are far less bloated.

Drivers IMHO have been fine for years, sure they have the odd game bug (which are generally fixed with hot fixes), but so does the competition.

Last few sets of Nvidia drivers have been utter crap for me, I've had to go back to 185.85 from May otherwise my framerates in Crysis drop -18fps

Never really had any issues with AMD/ATI drivers in the past, although with the 4xxx series people seem to have low framerates in World of Warcraft from what I've been reading seems to be introduced with a patch to WoW.

I would say AMD/ATI drivers more reliable than Nvidias currently.

My experience with them has been very positive i havn't had a single bsod with catalyst which after nvidia drivers made a nice change. No such thing as 100% perfect from either camp but ati drivers do not deserve the bad rep they seem to have anymore.

they are fine, just the odd bug but than the same can be said for Nvida drivers

Well I have not had a single graphics related crash with my 4890 since I got it about 3 months ago.

Same goes for me.

I've always been careful with uninstalling/reinstalling - using Driversweeper once, then rebooting to safe mode and running again before restarting and installing new drivers.

Was having a few problems with the Nvidia drivers for my old 8800gts 320, which was not good as I do a fair bit of online league sim-racing. This is one of the reasons I opted for a 4890, plus the reported IQ benefits in rFactor/Gmotor games with ATI cards.

Fine here. Just dont install them over one another and you will be fine :)

That's precisely what I do and I have never had one issue:) Funny how we are all different. :)

Thought it automatically removed the old drivers anyway when installing new ones.

To OP : In my experience the ATi drivers have been solid as a rock.

No problems here. Also fairly predictable and reliable monthly updates from ATi so you always know when the new ones are out.
