New 7.2 drivers available on ATI website. Downloading them now, so can't report on any performance issues.

The release notes say that, among others, there's:

-Reduced system resource usage
-A brand new version of the Catalyst Control Center for Windows XP
-Increased stability

There's also a long list of specific resolved issues.

Gave me a slight benchy improvement, haven't got time to try any 'real world' stuff now but will try later. I took the plunge and tried the update option rather than uninstall-reinstall, all seems to have gone well.

I'd be very intertested to hear of your experiences with these drivers. My first reaction (after the much longer install) was that my OpenGL performance had been savaged. I don't use benchmarks so was just relying on my experience of a couple of Quake demos of various vintages that I use as a guide.

I wanted to go back to 7.1 and tried uninstalling/updating but had major problems including my first BSOD in weeks (it mentioned an ATI file). After failed System Restores (see separate thread), I was forced to sticking with 7.2. Now the games seem to have settled down - I think maybe I loaded them up befote Vista was ready finishing other procedures as Process Explorer reported quite high CPU usage on various system processes.

Anyway, sorry for rambling. What's been your experience, especially in OpenGL?

Most people that I have seen reporting OpenGL after updating are reporting massive improvements (I also think it's come under discussion in the 7.2's thraed in the Graphics Card forum). I'll install Doom3 and Quake4 later to see.

Thanks for that. I guess I must have jumped the gun a bit and will do a bit more testing when the CPU usage is low.

I never venture outside of the Windows forum, so it didn't occur to m,e to look elsewhere on this site.
