ATI Fan control software for linux

Let me know if your interested so I can continue development.

Most definitely!

My gfx card is radeon HD 4870x2 and sounds like a vacuum cleaner on full blast whilst in linux.

Under windows it gets loud when under load but its running loud even when idling in linux.

So a little app that would allow control of that would be very much appreciated!

Great, I've made it in Mono but it didn't come out very productive for running on different distros, so I'm recoding into C++, something that I can't do :p

Can you do me a favour...Can you post the exact output of the:

aticonfig --adapter=0 --od-gettemperature

Command..

Thanks.

Hi There,

I'm not using the ATI drivers, I'm using the standard installed drivers that are part of Fedora core 13 (beta). Compared to previous versions the ati support is pretty good. I've got all my desktop effects working compiz etc, I haven't run any 3D programs or games to find out what performance I'm getting though.

I'm guessing my output of that command is irrelevant without having the ati drivers installed?

Just in case...

[Mike@Thanatos ~]$ aticonfig --adapter=0 --od-gettemperature

Yeah you will need ati drivers. That's the only real way for the os to make a proper connection with the hardware. ATM your using opensource drivers. Although do provide you with what you need you will not be able to control your fan speed without the catalyst drivers.

Ok, I'll look at that in a bit, got the day off work today so happy to do a little playing. I've tried installing the ATI catalyst drivers before, but I only ended up breaking my install.

I just did a little playing in some linux games to try and work out what 3d performance I'm getting. Torcs at 1920x1200 was giving me the massively impressive 6 fps! Certainly suggesting that I need to definately install the catalyst drivers....

No luck I'm afraid, doesn't look like catalyst 10.4 is happy with fedora 13 (beta/rc). I'm loathe to go back to fedora 12 as I had massive trouble with my raid chipset on 12 whereas 13 just worked.

Maybe once 13 is released and they sort out the ati drivers via fglrx I'll have another go.

Best,

Oh ok then no problem, you won't be able to use the software without proper ATI Catalyst drivers anyway.

I've been meaning to get fedora 13, gave 12 a try but never really got used to it I guess, but it does look nice with all the blue.

but...3GB for the DVD, what do they exactly put in that OS?? lol
