ATI Graphic Driver Install Error

Hi guys,

My graphics card in my sig died over the weekend.I ordered a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme to replace it,has I don`t use this machine so much anymore and for the price it looked ideal.

It installed no problem but I cannot get the graphic drivers to install.I downloaded the latest drivers from ati,but when I install them it gets so far then suddenly ends installing.Then a message box comes up saying `No AMD graphics driver installed,or the AMD driver is not functioning properly.Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware.`

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but I only get this message.Any ideas please ?

does the error log mention a hd audio error and nothing else?

I have tried a custom install and unticked the 2 entrys mentioned in another post but I still get the same error message.

I have uninstalled the drivers again,went into control panel,device manager and uninstalled the drivers from here.Rebooted then went back into control panel and let windows install drivers and now I can at least use the pc in 1440x900 res but I know this is not ideal.

can you use a driver remover to get rid of all reminants of old drivers, clean the registry of all old Ati entries and go for a completely fresh driver install?


My sapphire card still has driver wonks here and there occasionally.

I have not tried that yet but I will get a driver remover and try it.

Has a last resort I will do a fresh install of win 7 over the bank holiday weekend.

I have been to Guru3D and downloaded and installed :-

AMD Catalyst 11.4 (8.841 April 5) Win7/Vista/XP x86/x64

Which seems to have installed just fine so for now I will carry on using these.
