I'm looking to buy a laptop on which I may play some games, nothing serious and doesn't need to be amazing graphics just as long as the games run.

Now, the one I'm looking at has a Intel Core i5 460M processor, and a ATI Mobility Radeon 5470 graphics card.

As the graphics card is not the Intel GMA HD that's in the vast majority of the i cpu laptops, does this mean that it is not integrated and can be upgraded if I wanted to?

Not necessarily. Some dedicated graphics cards are soldered too the mobo. ie my Vaio has an hd5650 but cant be removed/changed. It all depends. What laptop is it?

I wouldn't count on the upgrade path.

The HD 5470 is a far cry from a GMA, but when you start with nothing...

I think it would be underpowered for your needs, but it also depends what games you are thinking of. I would go at least HD 5650 / GT425M or equivalent to be comfortable.
