ati h264 acceleration

Howdy :)

I'm fairly newbish still with Linux. Currently running Mint 10 with newest drivers from ATI website and a HD5450 - and 1080p content is chugging as it isn't offloaded to the gpu in XBMC. Is there a fix for this other than buying an nvidia card?
 
If you're running the latest ATI drivers you can get something look up XvBA and UDVD2. phoronix.com is a good place to start.

It's not easy to setup though and lots of people can't get it to run. You'll probably need to recompile XBMC to enable libva support (depending where you got xbmc from it may be deactivated).

The easier and lazy option is to get an nvidia card, or if you have a PCI-E x1 slot buy a broadcom crystal HD 70015 chip. Works very well in XBMC.
