ATI HD 2600xt specs

But the core doesnt seem to be cut down as much from its bigger brother unlike the 8600 series
120 stream processing Vs 320 stream processing
40 texture fetches per clock cycle VS 80 texture fetches per clock cycle

Indeed.

"128-bit DDR2/GDDR3/GDDR4 memory interface"

Haven't they decided what is going on the card?

Yes they have decided, it can be either DDR2, GDDR3 or GDDR4 depending on the brand (asus, gigabyte etc).

Interesting, two of the Diamond Multimedia 2900XTs have 1GB memory. Brand name remains 2900XT, so it looks like its using the same core as the cards we have now.

sapphire have 2 2600xt stuck to each other as well???
First dx10 quad card. Or just catering the non crossfire mobos

ohhhh damn I was hoping the 2600 would have a 256 bit interface, they really have neutered this card even for a midrange htpc option

home htpc can be run easily with something like a 6200 card. no need for all that fancy shader stuff.

would like to see how this performs. i rekon the 8600gt will probably end up being faster.

I know what you are saying - but I wouldnt have minded a midrange card to do some light gaming on an htpc (as it has a huge monitor attached) but to do any kkind of decent gaming you either have to buy a last gen top range card or top range current gen to get decent decoding performance - neither brilliant from power usage reasons though

Indeed, but when you go to their store, they do not advertise/sell it. They only sell the 512MB version at the moment.

Some nice specifications for the mid-range stuff, although suprised that the XT version of the 2600 didn't come with 256-bit bus. Nevertheless, looks promising!

When are the 2600/2400s due?
They have been shipped already, or currently are shipping, to their board partners, so I'd expect to see them next month sometime. Official date though, I'm not sure.

1st of july launch but im not sure if its a paper or hard launch. The board makers have gotten the cards so i think its a hard launch. Im hoping to get the cheapest ddr4 version and overclock it.

what do you guys predict on the 2600xt's performance? from its specs i rekon it may be slower than a 8600gt. but im just calculating the hardware difference between a 8600gt and 8800gts and also the 2600xt and 2900xt to try and guess a result.

going from a 512bit memory interface to a 128bit memory interface is a drastic loss in memory bandwidth. where as the 8600 went from a 320bit to 128bit.

dunno if you guys understand my method of thinking, kind of hard to explain without typing loads and im just too lazy for that :p
