hey guys,

ive decided to go for for a single 5870 over a GTX 460 due to more bang for buck and as ATI cards are lower voltage

anyway will two of these cards fit in a CM690 II adv or a lancool k62 ??? (as i would like to go crossfire sometime in the future

or is it worth going full tower to make sure ???

cheers guys and thanks for your help :)

yeah my flatmate has a cm690II and he has a 6870 in there, think they are about the same size, anyway plenty of room for that and if the 5870 is bigger then its not by much

yeh the xfx 5870 was the one i was looking at and yu get a free copy of AVP :D lol

are the 5870 a good fast and low heat card ???

and how do they perfrom in crossfire ???

I bought a 5850 not to long ago, before the price drop in the 5870 :( but im happy with it. Nice and fast, a good OC'er.

On the overclocked 5850 I have it idles at around 35-40c with fans at 30%, never reaches above around 65-68 (fans around 55% this temp) and this is with an overvoltage of + .175v.

Good overall with power consumption and heat, slightly more power consumption and heat than the 6800's (but faster cards) and way better on heat and power consumption than the Geforce's.

The 5870 is a fast card and in xfire they perform excellent and i am also looking at a upgrade to a 5870, for under £200 it is the current best bang out there, though i have only seen 5870`s under £200 at OCUK & 1 other place.

Have a nose through google for some reviews on xfire 5870`s, you wont be dissapointed, i know that xfire 4890`s were on a par with the gtx 295 so the 5870`s should be much better and they scale better than the 4800 series cards.

How long is the 5870, I've seen reports of it being 9.5".
I can just about fit my 4850 in my case so the 5870 might be a struggle?

The 5870 will wipe the floor with a 460.

5870 reference design is about 11.1 inches in length, 5850 is about 9.5-10 inches in length. Custom coolers and non-reference design boards can vary however.
