ATI HD 6950 Toxic Edition problem

Hi,

If anyone could offer some advice that would be much appreciated.

A couple of days ago I bought a B Graded ATI HD6950 Toxic edition. Received the card and tried it out straight away, one snag it wouldnt fit into my system. I bought a new case and power supply and switched everything over to the new system.

The card worked first time but when I attempted to use the manual fan control setting problems happened. The fans on the card make a sound like a cable maybe touching it even though there isn`t. But when I move the manual slider past 60% the fans make a loud clacking/whirring noise and strain a lot.

Cheers
Rob

PS I`ve already submitted a RMA request but would like to keep the card if its something simple.

Sounds as though the ball bearings in the fan are shot dude. An RMA is definitely needed.

Good job on the RMA as if the fan dies and you don't notice, say bye bye to the card via overheating.

Cheers CinderzFTW, yep thought it was the fan. Temp went upto 109 c when I tried the Heaven benchmark utility with the fan set to auto :(

Cards been sent back now but slightly cheesed off that the card wasn`t checked before shipping though. It was a early birthday present from my girlfriend who kindly bought me another 9650 (new).

Thanks again.

The GPU might well of been tested and was ok in normal use, but a fault occured under Heaven benchmark utility which puts the GPU fan under higher stress then normal use.

I did try it in normal mode before the heaven benchmark. It sounded loud around the 35 -50% mark but as soon as i moved the slider past 50% is when it went bad (with no programs running).
