I'm trying to get a ATi HD2600 Pro graphics card and the deciding factor is a HDMI port. I've been in touch with OcUK via the webnote system and it's like pulling teeth.

What I'd like to know is how the HDMI dongle works? Does it pass through sound ok? How does it pass through sound, in that I mean do I need to connect the G/Card to the sound card in order for it to work or what?

Lastly, will any DVI-HDMI dongle work as OcUK cannot guarantee that I get a HDMI dongle in the box?

Thanks.

It has to be the ATI dongle as it is fully wired to carry audio.

You dont need to connect it to a soundcard, the sound is onboard the grfx card :)

Thanks for those answers! So the card has on board sound processing hardware for the HDMI? What about the sound normally comming out of the sound ports on the back of the PC, are these affected in any way?

I have HD2600Pro in my HTPC, you set the "HDMI Audio Device" (the realtek onboard sound on the Radeon) as default audio device, and every sound goes through the HDMI cable. I ended up using Coaxial out instead.

Not perfect for my needs but acceptable, thanks!
