Just been offered from my brother a

ATI HD4870 1Gb GDDR5 Dual DVI
And
A unbranded 450 PSU with the graphics power connectors

For £50, is this worth it or am i better getting for a bit more money a newer graphics card and PSU

Not fussed about the power supply, want to get a bigger one with more connectors but can do for the mean time. As i big Nvidia Fan is this card any good, looks beefy got two power connectors on the back, so its hungry

Personally I wouldn't consider a generic 450W PSU worth anything, and I certainly wouldn't use it with a system that uses a 4870 or equal/higher power consumption card. So basically £50 for a 2nd hand 4870 1GB, which seem poor value as you can get a 2nd hand 5770 1GB with that amount of money, which is just as fast, have dx11 support, lower power consumption and cooler running.

Where from?

Like Mariene said it's not worth it, it's an ancient card and equivalent to a 5770 which is a slightly less ancient mid range card.

I think i have one in my bedroom closeted museum somewhere.

Not my thread, but I have a question :p
What's a better card that you can get for around £50? My uncle's old card just died and he's looking for a new one - he likes to play flight sims and doesn't want to spend much more than that.
Cheers.
A 260 maybe?

New? for £50?

Nvidia GT 630

AMD HD 6570

What card did he have in it before? The one that's now dead?

I'm not sure, I'm still waiting for him to call me about it. He bought it for about £85 on eBay, and when he found it didn't work he paid £90 for a "professional" to take a look at it - he just told him the card was dead :p Easy money...

hmmmm... yeah, erm? are you going to have a look at it? i'm assuming you know a little about hardware.

Also, the reason i ask is because those GPU's are not particularly good, there... well, there £50 GPU's, you know?
If he had something with more guts before he might not be to happy.
