Ati HDMI sound problem...

Hi,

I have a problem getting HDMI Audio from Ati Cards.

I have EXACTLY the same problem using a 2900 or a 4870.

CCC sees the HDTV as DVI (although it has it called WXGA TV(3) in displays manager).

The Ati/Realtek sound device says not plugged in.

I get a perfect picture from the HDMI so I think the cable is ok...

The 4870 I am currently using has a dedicated HDMI output (so no dongle).

I have followed all the advice/tips/hints I could find. But I cannot get the damn thing to put sound out (although it should be able to).

I am also using Vista 64. Anyone know how to get this fixed?

Thanks,

Dave

HELP!

You may need to use the Dongle on the DVI port if you have not tried already.
Dedicated HDMI on the 4870 is not ATI reference & may not carry the audio unless the instructions that came with the card say otherwise.

really? :O

why would the dedicated HDMI output NOT carry the HDMI sound?

Seems there are A LOT of people having similar problems tho, anyone found a common solution?

Because most gfx cards didn't have a sound chip nore did they re route sound.
The common problem is that people don't set the Digital Output Device (HDMI) as default.
Also not all TV`s support sound over HDMI.

What's the make of your gfxcard ?

I can't set it as default as it says "not plugged in"... :(

What's the chance of the 'display port' being the audio carrier?

TV takes sound from Sky over HDMI...

You have the 1GB version as that's the version on the palit site with the built in HDMI which has taken the place of where the second DVI port would go.

It comes with DVI/HDMI Dongle use it in the DVI port & hook that up to the TV give it ago you have nothing to lose.

Has the ATI Audio driver been installed, ie does it appear in device manager? I first got mine to install by using Windows Update drivers, then found the driver opn ati site. Make sure Windows is set to use the ATI driver (in sound properties) instead of your usual sound device.

Well, as I said I can't enable it as it says unplugged.

Basically, I think this is the issue:

CCC needs a signal from the TV saying that it is a HDTV and NOT DVI.

My TV appears to be passive when receiving the HDMI signal (i.e. it does not send out any info saying it is a HDTV).

So I therefore cannot get the device plugged in as it does not see it as a HDTV.

I need a way to force CCC to 'see' the HDTV (not force resolutions or any of that stuff).
