okay what crossfire cards from ati will beat 2 nvidia 580s ???

Two 6970's will beat two 580's in some games, though more often than not the 580's will win out. I think you're looking at tri-fire to consistently beat two 580's in sli.

as for the 6990 i dont like them would rather have 2 cards in crossfire

It will more than likely be cheaper to go for two 6900 cards as opposed to one dual card. Either way, just make sure that you have decent case ventilation.
