ATI hotkey poller service? - ignore, fixed

Ok, I've installed the basic catalyst 7.4's for my x800, and I've now added ATT.

ATT says to disable the ATI hotkey poller service, but when I do this, none of my 3d apps run, and dragging windows around the desktop is really jerky. What gives?

EDIT: Ignore - it's fixed itself after a few reboots. :)

whats ATT? and what does the hotkey poller do?

ATI Tray Tools is a third party control panel app for your graphics card. The Hotkey poller I believe sets the correct clock speeds when you enter a game.

EDIT: Or it may just be for shortcut keys.

# ATI Hotkey Poller (ati2evxx.exe) - Also called the ATI External Event Utility, this service is primarily needed if you use the ATI Hotkey settings available in the ATI Catalyst Control Center. However, before disabling this service note the following: If you use a third party overclocking utility, you must disable this service otherwise the utility may not work; if you have an XT, X1000 or newer graphics card, disabling this service can also disable the OverDrive section in the Control Center, and can also prevent correct clock speeds being applied in 3D mode; if you run a laptop with an ATI graphics card, you may need to keep this service enabled to allow your LCD screen to switch off properly when the laptop is closed; if you use Fast User Switching then disabling this service may also cause problems with that. If none of the conditions above apply to you, I recommend that you disable this service.

:)

It's needed for overdrive clocking mode of ATT.

This and the driver itself changes the clock when in 3d Mode, ATT just changes the values via the driver.

This is why memory clock speeds score less than the same speeds clocked via low level, as catalyst is in control of the clock change which loosens VGA memory timings as it ups the clocks.

damn, i cant disable it seems! :/

If your running ATT then you disable it.

Then you need two profiles with 2D and 3D clocks, which then you have to select in the auto overclock screen so when a 3D app starts the clocks rise/fall.

:)

Yar, it seems to work better with the hotkey poller thing turned off.

It was a PITA uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers... but it's sorted now. I upgraded from a 9800 to a x800. :)

It shouldn't matter with the X800 series, they don't have a 2D and 3D mode so they don't switch when starting a game.

You can still set up profiles for them though and get your card clocked down low for 2D for less heat dissipation when not in use but they don't have software programable voltage regulators like the X1800/X1900 series.
