hello everyone

i was just wandering, whats the better driver out of the omega or catalyst?

and why ?

thanks

It's not really a matter of which one is better mate it's more of a case of which one better suits your Hardware combination.
I have used both in the past with different versions of each slightly outdoing each other in Benchys.
You really have to try the latest of either and a few older ones and get the best one that suits your own system.

The Omega drivers are still Catalyst drivers, just ones that have been pre-optimised for you.

The Omegas will often be a version or two behind the current released drivers so if you need a bug-fix of feature you may have to go Catalyst till Omega does an update.

Personally I don't find the standard Catalysts in as much need of optimisation as the older Nvidia drivers that he used to do until Nvidia got nasty about it.

The Omega's are not just as up to date as the Official ATI drivers, but tend to be better. The guy that creates them is a tester for ATI, if memory serve me correctly. I have used the Omega's ever since i found out my 9500 non pro could soft mod via these drivers into a 9700. :D

On a similair vain, about to go from a 7800GT to a 1900XT, back from the dark side !! and am wondering do they include the fix for Oblivion as i bought it yesterday and my 1900XT arrives today, touch wood. Well it arrived in City Links Belfast depot 6.50am Saturday, so better arrive today.

Have used the Omega drivers & the Catalyst drivers.
Never had a probelm with either really.
The 3Dmark scores with the two only showed minimal differences too.

Have used the NGO drivers once but had a problem so deleted them & havent used them since.

Running my X1900XT (@XTX) on Omega cat 6.5's without a single issue. I can't stand the CCC so I use Omegas or DNA's whenever possible. (I just prefer the driver layout).

Have done with all of the ATI cards I have run.

me and a friend both have x800xt pe cards and when using the Omegas, they always seem to leave 2 Unknown devices in device manager. never known why, and everything works fine. weird stuff.

i'm with deadeyedic30, used the drivers as they had softmod capablilites, and used them ever since. i'm not a fan of the CCC and prefer the Omega tools :)

never investigated the genuine differences between the drivers in benchmarks etc :o

i'd be interested in trying out other divers though.

i remember the Starforce ones for my old nVidea card, those were sweet :)

The 2x unknown devices are the WDM drivers for the VIVO function, just download them from the ATi site. :)

If you don't like the CCC then you could always just download the drivers on their own, and then use ATi Tray Tools for all your AA/AF etc.. settings as well. :)

A ha thankyou. I have been bugged with this for a while lol. *windows has found an unknown device*. Will try that.

:)

I must admit I have never htought about just downloading the ATI drivers themselves and then using ATI tray tools for the AA and AF settings.

I may look into it.

I've decided to give the omega drivers a go for the first time with my X1900XTX,downloaded and installed o.k.

As you omega users will be aware the drivers contain ATI tray tools for 3d settings and overclocking etc,for some reason, and this is stated in the ATT release notes, overclocking is disabled on the X1900 series,I was just wondering what you omega users use to overclock on this series of cards,I'm assuming ATI tool, which I have never particuarly got on with myself.Cheers for any info. :)

You'll find this thread here usefull. :)

Thanks :) I had looked this thread back out actually as I remember referring to it soon after buying the XTX,i'll go through it again, seems strange that after all this time though that overclocking in ATT is still disabled for the X1900 series.
