Thinking of selling my bfg 8800gts 640mb.

Now when i bought it i came from a x1900xt 512mb.

I noticed a big fps increase but the image quality wasnt so nice is this a known issue.

I want a new card but is the 3870xt gunna show me beter performance and image quality.

i cant have a 8800gt as it doesnt like my psu apparently (quattro 850)
I play games only css cod4 etc etc.

Advice would be really apreciated.thanks

Not a 1 vs the other post, omg I see an argument in the making, seriously though read reviews mate its all swings and roundabouts. I would wait and see if you have the option to see the next range from both vendors and then the price of the card you do go for will maybe dive a little depending on the next range that comes along.

krisbutler do you mean in brightness levels?. I think it's something to do with having to turn up the brightness or something. Raven knows more about it than I do though.

I plugged in my 2900 yesterday and it did seem more vibrant but I can't be sure at all as my mind could have just been playing tricks on me after seeing someone post it yesterday. I played UT3 overclocked to 847Mhz on the core and 1000Mhz memory. Played for about 10 minutes and needed to plug my GTX back in as the performance wasn't what I wanted. Much smoother with the GTX and I reckon it'll be the same for the GT and new GTS 512mb. In fact disregard the brightness levels as I cannot be sure at all between the 2900 and 8800GTX :o.

What is your gaming resolution?. If higher than 1600x1200 then maybe the GTX will do you fine but the king of cards at the moment is the X2 3870 but it's also the dearest.

I can't say I've noticed any difference in image quality between the two. Just that the 2900 is slower and that will be the same for the 3870. The good thing about buying one 3870 though is you can add another and beat the GTX/Ultra as long as you have a Crossfire motherboard.
