Ati or Nvidia

for me it was always going to be amd,

the 6950 unlocked to 6970 with its 2GB ram on my 2560x1440 resolution makes sense to me [this is disregarding my nvidia dislike]

i dont have 3d

If your getting a 120Hz screen you will likely run into less problems with nVidia even if you don't use 3D Vision. 120Hz on AMD/ATI is still a little bit hit and miss.

To answer your question the 570 is better IMO when you take in to consideration the superior cooling and quiet fan, it will overclock further than the radeons as well giving you faster than 580 performance depending on how far you clock it. 3D is better supported on Nvidia.

Review below, he hit 950 core

I've used the GTX 570 it's totally quiet when idle and I cannot hear it at all when playing games, all my games work no worrys.

I've got a 6950 to try out as well, will see what happens with the 11.1 beta drivers.

I previously had a AMD/ATI 5850 for around a year, also a quiet card clocked very well and to be honest I never really noticed any problems in games.

People will say different things about drivers issues, heat/noise but that's mainly people just trying to defend their purchase of their own card, I always go by what review sites say, I don't take much notice of what people say on websites.

EDIT: The GTX 570 clocks quite well, you won't be far behind GTX 580 speeds if that!

If you're thinking of going 3D later down the line, get the nVidia. AMD does, in theory, do 3D but going nVidia will give you a lot less problems.
