I need to upgrade my graphics card, something that's gonna handle bf4, probs gonna spend about 200 quid but not sure what to go for.

I was going to head straight to ati but prices have gone through the roof with mining. Would it be worthwhile going with nvidia? Can I get a better card cheaper???

Cheers guys any advice would be appreciated :-)

You are in a bit if a no mans land with that budget for AMD you can get an R9 280x for around £260 with a free copy of BF4 and then sell BF4 making some money back.

The R9 270X is £50 under you budget but again comes with a copy of BF4.

The GTX 760 is right on your price point. I'd personally go for a Windforce or ASUS variant. You won't regret it.

If you're looking at ati graphics cards then you'll be quite a bit out of date :p
Think you mean amd as amd bought out/mearged with ati and since have dropped the ati name.

Selling BF4 for~£20 gets you the Msi gaming 280x, the extra £40 gets a higher specced card-performance wise for BF4 than anything Nvidia have to offer@£200.

Then consider Mantle performance increase, even if it's only ~10% performance increase- that puts you in stock 780/280X performance for the extra £40- which could be amazing bfb.

Take into account Mantle is still to release, for BF4, it could be days or weeks until release, performance increase could be less or more.

A 270X is a whole one FPS behind the 760 in BF4 for example, and that's without any potential Mantle increases. It's also a whole load cheaper and you get BF4 which you can sell. Play your cards right, and you can get two of them for the price of a 280X, that's a bit of a steal if you ask me.

my full spec is

AMD FX8320 @ stock (3.5)
12GB XMS3 1600MHZ ram, 3 x 4GB
Current GPU (HD5770 saphire)
PSU: corsair ax450 watt i think. or it might be 500watt

the 280x seems like the way forward, will just have to save up a bit more money.

what would the NVidia equivalent to the 280x be? would it be cheaper or more expensive? or would you recommend sticking with amd?

also how would you rate the 7950? better or worse than the 280x?

here you go mart,

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1033?vs=1041

the 280X vs 7950 boost.

looks like the 280X is about 10-15% faster.

but also take into consideration the overclock i will be putting on it for you :p

i don't know where to find a bench with Oc cards to compare, but im sure someone on here will (teppic!)

:)

edit:

amd vs nvidia, your looking at...

7950 = GTX 760
R280x = GTX770

Prices are:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Radeon R9 280X Matrix Platinum 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £319.99

OCUK dont have any 7950's in so put 7970 in there instead lol

the prices, aren't a massive difference to be honest.
