I've had endless trouble overclocking my X1900XT.
"ATi overclocker" works, but you have so set it again after a reboot.
"Rivatuner" doesn't handle the dual frequencies for 2D/3D well.
"ATi tool" is buggy.
I finally gave up and tried ATi Overdrive in the CATALYST control centre. And I can say, if you don't want to overvolt, this is the way you want to overclock.
It holds the setting after a re-boot, it's not buggy, and 3DMark06 makes a good stability test, followed that up with 3 hours of BF2, and had to let the memory back 1 notch to stock, but the core is at 668Mhz, past XT-X speed.
