Doubt there will be much response to this with the lack of 5970's doing the rounds.

Using the ATI OverVolt Tool is rather easy as you start out with the default card voltages of 1.05V on the core and 1.10V on the memory and then you can increase it to 1.1625V on the core and 1.15V on the memory. These are just modest increases, but AMD said that it is enough to greatly increase the overclocking possibilities of the Radeon HD 5970 graphics card.

As I understand it the overvolt tool has 2 voltages, the 5970 default voltages which are lower due to the slower core/mem, and then it has 5970 voltages which allow clocks to reach 5870 speeds.

So I'm guessing running it on a 5870 is pointless? (unless you get an unlocked overvolt tool from one of the vendors)

Does anyone have a copy or a link to the ATI Overvolt for the 5970?Can't seem to find it anywhere on google!
I can't remember what I searched for but I found it pretty easily on Google. I wish I could have used the XFX one that came with my card but the morons at that company didn't think to support 64bit operating systems.

I think I might cancel my xfx 5970 black edition then, what's the point in paying the extra if their overclocking tool isn't going to work on my operating system.

Do they really think that most people who pay £500 for a gpu are going to be using a 32bit OS.

I figure it's more about the support than anything else, as the ATi Overvolt tool works on all 5970 cards. Hopefully they'll update the XFX tool and allow you to save the settings on startup, as currently I have to change the voltages each time I start my computer. Anyone know a way around this?

Got a copy of ATI overvolt kindly donated from a member here, but unfortunately when i try to run overvolt i get the message

Error: Cannot obtain appropriate HWService instance

anyone any ideas:confused::confused::confused:
