Can anyone tell me if Ati+physx will work with dual monitors working off a 5870? I don't want to have to use any outputs on the nvidia card as i need sound through the HDMI.

Assuming i've understood the question, then you want to use a 5870 with two monitors and then use an NVidia card to do the PhysX processing?

afaik NVidia dont officially allow PhysX to be enabled in the presence of an ATi card, so I suppose that would have to be a no..

However, an old/modified driver should allow it, and in that case I see no reason why you shouldnt be able to use an ATi rendering/Nvidia 'PhysX'ing setup with two monitors..

Not with stock drivers, but it'll work with modified nvidia drivers.

The way I did it was to have my nvidia card linked to my monitor via VGA, and ATI card using the primary DVI. That way, the nvidia card detected a monitor correctly.

I have the hacked PhysX-mod-x64-1.01 file, but the question is- Do I have to use the ati card for display 1 and the nvidia card for display 2 (which I don't want). Or can I use the ati for displays 1 and 2?

no you can use the 5870 for display 1 & 2

but you need to fool the nvidia card to thinking its connected

this is to allow the nvidia control panel to activate (enabling physx)

so basically you need to connect a vga lead to the nvidia card to one of the
monitors (not to display a picture from it but to fool it thinking its connected)

then physx will work

e.g. monitor 1 = dell 24" & monitor 2 = dell 22"

connect the dvi from the 5870 to the dell 24" so you get the display from the 5870
& connect the vga lead from the nvidia card to the dell 24" (remember its still set to
view from the 5870 card via dvi)

connect dvi from the 5870 to the 22" monitor (viewing 5870 via dvi on the 22" monitor)

hope it makes sense, its late lol

All you need to do is add an extra monitor on top of your current ones and assign it to the nvidia card, you need the hack as well of course.

Run fluidmark to confirm hardware physx

Note not everything will run, Nvidias fluid particle demo doesnt for example.

I tried it with no luck, when I switch on Pc for first time after adding the 8600gt, I get no display, both monitors don't get a signal, but windows is booting up though. Tried in 2nd and 3rd pcie slots.
Any help?

Am interested in doing something like this myself. My 920 oc bundle is due to arrive today with 2*4890s. If possible I will try and use the 3rd pcie slot for one of my old 8800gt's.
Will want to use 2 monitors too
