ati R9 285 frame dropping, i3 bottleneck ?

just got a r9 285 and while it has good frames in BF4 they were dropping down to 6 with lockups, so im wondering if the i3 is a bottleneck, i have done a clean install strange when i use the auto it defaults to medium, which is strange because the 560ti with just fits into my micro atx case upstairs defaults to high,
and its only 1mb ram. its making me wonder if its too much for 64 player servers and the card is holding the 285 back ?
 
Tried both I think mantle was better mostly only dropping to 28/30 average 45/50 but the lockups were for a few seconds at 6fps, windows might have been updating lol.
 
I've got a R9 285 in my ITX PC that's running an old i7-2600K (stock, motherboard doesn't support overclocking). I'll see if I can get BF4 installed on it tonight and see what frames I get to give you an idea of if the GPU is capable of more than you're getting and hence if your i3 is limiting you.

Is it the High preset you're running, or are you running a custom one? If a custom, what are your settings exactly so I can replicate them. Can't check what the presets are from work, hence the ask. Also, is there a particular server/map you're trying it on? I only ever play the single player in games, even Battlefield, so have no idea what servers are good to check for bottlenecks.
 
Rizz are you textures on high? I know when I had high settings with high textures with 7870LE I'd get hitching like that...when I put my textures to med but everything else high it was fine on mantle same with DX; I didn't try msaa

Hi yes on the high setting, i noticed my soundcard kept playing sounds from bf4 after the game was ended so i disabled the true sound in the device manager and the low fps glitches have gone so my lowest frames are around 30 fps on high in a 64 player server.
