ATI Radeon 6970 - Cannot enable 3 monitors

I have a ATI Radeon 6970

My main monitor is a Dell U2711 with a Prolite E2208HDD on each side.

I cannot enable 3 monitors, If I attach the 2 Prolites with DVI connections and the Dell with a HDMI, it will not let me enable 3, I have to unplug one.

I have a displayport to mini-displayport arriving tomorrow, that may cure things, but then I'm guessing I will not be able to connect my projector via HDMI.

I purchased the 6970 on the basis I could run 3 monitors and 1 projector, was I wrong?

Next problem, whether connected by either HDMI or DVI, the U2711 only allows me to set a max resolution of 1920 x 1080 and not the full 2,560 x 1,440.

Can you help?

As Al has mentioned above, you need to use the MiniDP to be able to get 3 monitors or more.

Check this video out in which the user does 2 x DVI with 1 miniDP to another DVI...

Part 1

Part 2

I would arrange your 4 outputs as follows...

DVI -> Dell
DVI or HDMI -> Projector
MiniDP -> Prolite
MiniDP -> Prolite

This of course means you will need to purchase another active adaptor for the second MiniDP port but it's the only way.
