ATI Radeon 8.1

Back on topic, the Mobility Radeon 2600HD in my HP 8510p did not like the new drivers. For some odd reason it seems to not detect my second display on my docking station, rendering one of them unusable no matter what I do.

Tried several attempts at installing/uninstalling/driver sweeper the system to no avail. Re-installed the 7.12's and all was well again.

This is on Vista 64 by the way. Also, drivers were modded for use with mobility chipsets using the DH driver modder.net edition.

i was getting a blue screen on my 3850 using these drivers yet when i downgraded it was fine, it was while changing resolution and refresh rate in cod4 - Using 8.1 on my x850 xt pe and its fine

lol.. firingsquad are the most nVidia loving fanboys in the world. I would never trust a review from them!

odd, anandtech and hardocp and also tomshardware show the 8800gt to also be faster than the 3870 so its not just firingsquad.

lol just noticed you got a 2900 in your sig :p

Single card 8800GT is faster than a 3870 by a good margin.

Dual card that gap closes significantly.

I wasn't saying that the 8800GT isn't faster. I'm just saying I wouldn't trust a review from them, or anandtech from a couple of very dodgy reviews I saw a few months back from them with figures that ended up looking completely made up.

so only reviews i shoudl trust are the ones that show the 3870 being quicker than the 8800gt...... hmmmmm.

well it happened to me. explain that then?

could be down to a million and one things, your drivers, hardware conflicting, your cpu, psu cant handle the power needed to overclock, etc, etc, you didnt do a "fresh run" or do 3 runs with overclock on and off, then take the average score from the 3 runs, i aint psychic so i wouldnt know the exact problem

I take web site reviews with a pinch of salt all i use them for is a rough guild line i look for people who got the cards and use them everyday like on the forums here

yeah your right, i can't blame that on overclocking. good news is that i just discovered that i can download a free copy of half life 2 lost coast and deathmatch from steam for being an ati customer. i'm such a cheapskate :)

Hoped these drivers would allow me to install the graphics card into Vista 64. Alas, still get BSOD when trying to get in Vista. This is driving me nuts, as I would really like to use Vista and see what it is really like. XP was never THIS bad just to install a driver :(

ive been using vista 64 bit for the past 12 months, never had a problem with ati's drivers, only creatives, but they have fixed theirs many moons ago

Putting words in my mouth as ever are we?

I'm not even sure if those dodgy anandtech reviews showed ATi cards being too good or nVidia cards being too good to be believed.

Like I said in my post I *know* the 8800GT is a better performing card so why on earth would I trust a site that said otherwise? If a site did come along and say such a thing it would go into the dodgy site list.

Assumption is a terrible thing in the wrong hands.

But anywayyyy... back to the drivers. Has anyone else noticed some unusual colours showing up since installing these drivers? I was sure it was only Firefox that was at fault and I figured a reinstall of it would cure it but today as I booted up for the third time (driver issue) the 'Welcome' at the start had an orange back colour instead of the dark blue. I was like "uh oh".

Has anyone else seen this? It's not that big a deal, I can live with link texts being odd colours. It's probably the fact that I installed these straight over 7.10s out of laziness.

^ some people experienced the same thing with the 7.12 drivers....I've never encountered the problem myself though.

I scored nearly 15,5k points in 3dmark06 with a single 3850, explain that then?

 nice score. as i said in my previos post, i haven't explored all the possible options so i can't blame overclocking the gpu. anyway, i downloaded hl2 lost coast and dm and i got 62fps average on the video stress test with a 4200x2 @ 2.5ghz and x1950gt @580/1200, ocz 2gb ddr2-800 ram, vista ultimate , is that scoe ok for my system?

mate nobody can tell you if that score is right or not, it depends on millions of different things, what res are you running at? what aa and af you have on, shadows, etc, the best way to tell if your card is performing is to do a 3dmark test with noo aa and leave af to normal and compare it with like systems

doh, how could i forget to mention that, i was sleepy

2xaa 4xaf colour correction disabled, vsync off, everything else max at 1650x1080. lost caost stress demo 62fps

and 3dmark 06 i got 44xx marks (can't remember exactly) no aa af at 1280x1024.
