ATI Radeon X850 XT overclocking query

I've just upgraded to an X850 XT and I am under the impression that it is basically a 'beefed up' version of an X800 Pro?
If this is true, would I be right in thinking that there isn't much potential for overclocking as the GPU has almost reached it's full potential core speed wise?

I will use the ATI Tool as I am under the impression that it is safe to run?
I think it beeps when the limit has been found and reverts back to a slightly slower speed.

Has anyone managed to get a decent overclock on the X850 XT out of curiosity?

No it isn't just a beefed up Pro. The XT is exactly the same as the PE version bar the clock speeds.

X800pro/X850pro = 12 pipelines

X800XT/X800XTPE/850XT/X850XTPE = 16 pipelines.

Thanks Rob :)

What I am wondering before I start overclocking the X850 XT is am I likely to get a similar overclock to my old X800 Pro?

I think that the X800 Pro GPU is actually a X800 XT core with 4 of the pixel pipelines disabled so what I am enquiring is that, generally speaking, are the XT versions more or less at their maximum possible core speed for their fabrication process or can I hope to get a similar overclock as I had on my X800 Pro which was running stably at 510 core and 510 (1020 DDR) memory speed?

Also is it true that the ATI Tool is safe to use to safely find the core and memory limit on all ATI cards.
I wouldn't want to push this card too far and damage it as I've only just had it

So as mine is on a stock cooler I presume using ATI tool just slide the core and memory sliders up a little and run a stress test eg 3dmark?

I used ati tray tools to clock my Asus agp x850xt to what they are now in my sig and it runs sweet. Using the stock cooler aswell and only peaks at 63'c under heavy load.

Using ati tool you can just select to find max core/mem and it will clock it up until it finds artifacts and will back off a bit and stop it. Then with both clocked up run some tests and check for any gains and problems

What is you fan settings? as at stock mine only spun at 15% until it hit 85'c then went faster, so I changed them so it got faster sooner.
here's a shot of my fan set-up in ati tray tools but its just about the same in ati tools. This keeps it at 34'c at idle and never goes above 63'c under any amount of load.

I ran the test and while the core was climbing it crashed. I restarted PC and it said ATI tools hit this setting then crashed. Is that normal while it searched for optinum setting?
I bottled it and gave up!

It normally crashes when you hit a clock beyond its capabilities at that voltage (think overclocking a cpu on stock voltages and it freezes on you).

My old X800GTO2 could hit 660 on the core although it may have been running a slihgly higher voltage to begin with (based on the x850xtPE core).

I have now found a stable overclock speed of 590 core and 580 (1160) Memory.
I didn't suffer a crash while finding the maximum memory speed as all that happened was the test stopped and I heard a beep which served as a warning not to go any higher.
However, I did suffer a crash (a blank screen) while finding the maximum core speed but I simply restarted the PC and knocked down the core speed a few Mhz and it is now fine.
