They don't run insanely hot at all, this is another exaggeration that escalated, infact it runs cooler than my GTS!, you can get a very nice overclock out of the stock cooler as has been proven.

Look you talk rubbish, if you think the 2900 runs the cooler than the G80 series then you are lying through your teeth, as some of you fan boys are in denial.

We are operating a Zero Tolerance atitude toward this type of remark , 48 hours suspension for your trouble Marshy

Or maybe he has a good case?? Any way keep it on track people.

My 2900 = 55 Idle 75 Load

My GTS = 60 Idle 75 Load

Around the same load but the 2900 runs cooler in idle. Anyhow, yea keep this thread on track.

Hmm, I read on the Guru3D review that they can peak at 90c at stock.

EDIT: Sorry, it is offtopic :)

Rubbish I've never seen it above 80  , I always monitor my GPU temps aswell. I've learnt not to trust these reviews anymore they all give different reports. :o

Yeah, it's not as if peoples ambient temperatures or case cooling has anything to do with their GPU temps.

... Actually, wait a second...

Yeah they do tend to differ a lot, I don't really take much notice of them if I can but when I saw 90c peaks it was overly worrying :) But cheers for the notice about the lower temps, and apologies for the off-topicness!

woo, this is awsome, i get idle 51 with stock fan speed, and load of 72, but iv changed the fan so when its idle its quiter, and it idles at 54c now but its quiet, and load of 73, iv not touched the load fan, but 1c hotter for 2000mhz memory rather than 1650, thats a good deal :D

i got somthing to ask, how in the heck do i get it so it clocks 3d, and then its minimized etc it goes to 2d,

edit: nvm i think iv done it :)

actually, you'll find not every single gts runs the same temp, thermal paste can be better or worse on some cards, the core itself can run hotter because its from a poorer yield or for other reasons. they can all run differently, just like you can get a hot or cold gts, you can get a hot or cold 2900. my 2900 on air ran about the same temps as my gts load, which somehow ran a fairly similar temp to my gtx despite using more juice. thats life.

also in general overclock gpu's is mainly a 3dmark thing, you might find that increase aa one more level is possible with a small overclock, but you'd very rarely find that a small clock would allow a higher detail level, or to go up a resolution and still have playable framerates. but most cards don't clock very high. if with a bit of voltage you can go fro 743 up to 1000 that isn't a small overclock, likewise 825 mem up to 1000, or even more isn't that small. so many there is some point.

when it comes to reviews also, one site said, looky here, if i turn the fan off completely, it can hit a massive 100C :o

go stick your finger on the g80 fan while its running 3dmark and see how hot it gets. some of the reviews made me utterly cringe from their not only bias, but ridiculous claims they came out with. essientially they said "look with no cooling this hot thing keeps getting hotter, so its crap".

as i've got watercooling on my r600 which gives it 39c idle and about 45 load at the moment, i'll try some voltages, might have a quick read on xtremesys to see what volts people have tried.

tbh I cba to overclock my card, the only real gains you will see is with 3dmark, in game its debateable. Ill just be using this to tame the fan :D.

If you play CoH Overclock it. Going from the stock speeds to 850/1000 gave me a 10fps boost on the min framerate :D

Anyways, I'll just DL this =D

Cant get it to work on Vista 64 home premium - Gives warning about kernel mode driver not running. Any ideas anyone
Tried running in compatability mode and as administrator

got it running on vista 64 bit, i very very frequently get the not running in kernal mode thing. close down ati tool, go to device manager, disable the ati tool driver, re-enable it, normally works after that, if not try again, if not reboot and try. worked first time for me. got all the options, temp monitoring is fine, not got a fan connected due to watercooling but would expect it will work. will try voltage a little later, was having a look on xtremesys and no mention that i could see of 2900xt volt mods, or changes. not sure if voltages changes really work or not. will try a little later.

Not possible im afraid those are the limits ATi deemed acceptable theres no way they would change it now, Just use ATi Tray Tools Mav :)

tray tools not working for me under vista64 im afraid. its odd that, the 3d speeds don;t seem to stick. used to use traytools under xp64bit and it was awsome then.

I always thought the 2900XT runs hotter but has a better cooler to balance it out? Hence the similar temperatures to the GTS. :)

can be a number of things, not worth just comparing temps, also look at noise of cooler to maintain those temps, also case temps make a massive difference hence why some people quote lower temps than others.
too many variables when comparing 1 card in x system to another card in y system.
