ATI Tool and XT-X Speeds

I followed Concordes OC guide and using ATI tool 0.25 Beta 14 set the 3D profile at 650/775 to load with windows, no problems there.

However, when I in game, such as BF2, FEAR, I notice ATI tool has lowered my speeds down to 339.60/594 ??????

I checked the log file and the temps are around 37c at idle and 63c under load.

Anyone any ideas why this is happening??

Cheers

Jack

I had the same issue. The 3D profile would load when gaming but then ATI Tool would dump my 2D speeds down to 400/500.

To make sure your 3D profile is being loaded when your gaming, you can tell ATI Tool to play a sound upon entering 3D mode. That way you know you're at your using your 3D profile.

Set your 2D stock profile (say 500/600) in ATI Tool too. Then tell ATI Tool to load the 2D stock profile "When 3D Application Is Closed". That's what I did anyway :)

thanks, didnt think of that.

What I have done now is, in ATI tool set "when 3d application is closed" to 650/800, the same as my 3d clocks.

That should fix the little beggar.

Some ATi Drivers (I think all from Cat 6.3) Reset the ATi Tool clocks when a game starts :( there is nothing around it, maybe 6.7/6.8 has fixed that issue.

If that does happen, you have to get to desktop with NO 3D showing and set the 3D clocks and go back into the game.

Only happens with BF2 tho :/ for me anyway out of MoH, COD/2, MS FS 2004..

Only problem I experienced when using atitool, was when switching from 3d mode back to 2d mode it would crash and do a vpu recover, bringing up the dialogue box. This was using 6.7 drivers, I created both a 2d and 3d profile and only did a modest overclock, nothing crazy ;p Seems it bombs out during the 2d/3d switch. I tried last 2 versions of atitool, beta 14 and 15, 15 is slightly better for x1900x series cards but does not load the user adjusted voltages(even if they have been saved in the 3d profile) for 3d mode when switching from 2d.

Still good to see the atitool author is still at it even though not very active, maybe next version fixes some of these problems. Wish there was a rivatuner program for ati cards, I miss it from the nvidia to ati switch.

Have you tried setting a sound to play upon 3D Detection being activated? If so, does the sound play when you're loading BF2?

When I try Tomb Raider Legend the sound doesn't play, so obviously 3D Detection isn't working. But with BF2 the sound plays and I presume 3D Detection is working fine and the 3D clocks are being loaded correctly.

Dude, I wrote the X1900XT clocking guide. I know whats what m8y :p ;)

And yes, it does play the logon theme for XP entering BF2, get to the main screen and its 500/600. I can see the change happen as the resolution changes as you start the game on my 2nd monitor...

I haven't played BF2 since my bro got my PC 2 months ago, so I dont know if Cats 6.7/6.8 fix the issue...

I know you know what's what - I followed your guide

I was just asking you whether the sound played when you went into BF2 cos it does on mine, but upon Alt-tab'ing back into windows, the speed is down at 399/594. So there's a bit of a condraction, as the sound plays to indicate 3D mode, but is actually running at speeds even slower than my 2D Profile :(

I load the 3D Profile (650/775) and go back into BF2, but BF2 doesn't really like Alt-tab so jerks around a bit when I go back in.

Aye, ATi Tool detects it, the resolution change happens and the clocks are reset :(

Not much we can do about it atm until ATi Tool can work using ATis 3D detection, which the creator is working on!!

Surely the whole point of having 2 different modes is so that when your not gaming your pc isn't using more power than it needs to, and to keep the card cool?

im still using 6.3 cats cos with every driver released since i cant play bf2 with my card overclocked. The oc is stable. I load my 3d profile in ati tool then load battlefield 2 and get a black screen straightaway though with the 6.3 the game loads and plays perfectly. it sucks!

How can i tell if my card is at its stated speeds? Is there a program that says it?

Im scoring 9700ish lately on 3dmark05 and im getting annoyed as people are getting 11500.

My specs are Pentium D 940 @ 3.6Ghz, 2gb RAM, GeCube X1900XT-X.

I tried your atitool method but it just crashes whenever it changes to 3d clocks the same as someone describes in a post above.

Read my guide? There are a few reasons that could happen.

Try Rivatuner or ATi Tray Tools and look at the monitoring. Its shows clocks, voltages, ampage, etc :)
