I'm trying to overclock with att but i can't. When i go to the overclocking tab it has a line saying 'overclocking disabled'. It lets me change the sliders but when i apply it just goes back to default. When i installed, i definitely didn't check the 'disable overclocking' box! I've tried reinstalling as well as disabling overdrive in the ati control panel. I'm not using CCC btw. Any ideas?

tray tools doesnt support the X1 series at all.

only ATI tool does.

ive yet to figure out how to overclock this thing at the moment....

think you're getting confused between ATi Tray Tools and ATi Tool. They are different programs with different uses. Tray Tools does have an overclocking utility built in but at present does not support the X1xxx range. It is however very good for configuring the various DirectX properties. ATi Tool has a working overclocking tool but not much else. Also the auto-overclock feature is supposed to be unreliable and likely to bork your card.....

nope... says in the guide to install both... why i do not know as no one has answered my questions on it either.

Need to install both so that you can still have control over AA/AF/MIP etc. without interfering with the overclock (Catalyst Control Centre would screw up ATi Tool and the clock settings, but ATi Tray Tools has OCing disabled for these cards anyway.)

I guess because many people don't like the CCC and tray tools is a very good alternative. Hoever, because it currently lacks overclocking support, you need ATi Tool if you want to overclock.

i cant get my overclock to stay... i set it in ATI overclocker and it recognises it in ATI Tool... then i run 3dmark05 and get the same score as stock... and my OC has dissappeared.... whys this?

You need to disable ATI HotKey Poller in services before using ati tool, that way you are essentially overclocking the 2d clocks speeds. just make sure you set the voltages in ati tool to those used when in 3d mode, so thats 1.4v core and 2.086v for ram as default 3d.

ok, another question. I've set the clocks in ati tool, saved them etc. But when i right click on the desktop, go to properties, advanced, ati overdrive - it shows the current core speed as 499mhz (ie the 2d speed). I have disabled the ati poller service and disabled overdrive. Should i just ignore the 499 figure?

thanks very much for the replies and help btw.

run 3dmark05 and see if the score goes up. if it has then the OC has stuck if not, welcome to my world lol.

ive set and saved the clocks and the voltage and fan settings and then run 3dmark05 to get exactly the same as before i reset them...

I sincerely hope that Ray Adams manages to get overclocking for the X1800/X1900 series working in ATi Tray Tools soon. I have even donated to his work. :(

i ran the source stress test and the fps went up a tad. Although raising the mem and core by about 40mhz each yeilded only a 6fps increase. Still, i guess that means it's working. I'm giong back to stock for now though.

So it's definitely fine to run 3d clocks all day? :) I'm on water and have a 120mm fan over the memory.
