Do ATI's Linux drivers still suck?

Most people seem to prefer Nvidia cards on Linux for better driver support.

I've been using ATI for the past couple of years in Windows, (and really like them) but am looking to use Linux more in the future and would like some decent graphics support.

My next video card upgrade might be Nvidia if they prove to still be the better choice for Linux.

Cheers for your input. :)

Hmmm, looks like I'll probably be heading more for the 7900GT over the X1800XT then. :)

Does Nvidia's TV out work well in Linux for movie watching?

I used to get black borders on screen in Windows on my GF4, although I think it was more to do with the chip they used.
