howcome all the ati cards that are priced to compete with 7900 GTO are 256mb as apposed to 512 of the nvidia ?

does it matter ? people say the ati ones will kill it yet have half the ram.......

did search couldnt find anything to answer the question....

put it this way, i had a 7900gs 256mb and it could not do rthdribl in a full screen with 12xmultisample, got error message that there was not enough video memory.

my x1900xt 256mb runs rthdribl full screen with 16xmultisample and still has 70mb vram free.

seems to be very high memory usage efficiency on the ati counterparts, which would also explain why they are quicker when doing AA since there is less data to put through the pipeline which means less need for memory bandwidth.

My 7900GT does it full screen

what resolution and settings?

i ran it at a desktop rez of 1280x1024, and the settings in rthdribl were: detail maps ticked, depth of field 141 taps, and 16x multisample.

that was running it WINDOWED at 1280x1024 and the window was maximised.

try that and see if it works.
