ATI X1900XT - Stuttering?

I seem to have a problem with directx games on my X1900XT :(

If I start Counterstrike Source or Test Drive Unlimited I get a constant stutter. On CSS If I ALT+TAB once it doesn't go out of the game and the stutter goes

I was using the Catalyst 7.2 drivers and had the problem. So I upgraded to the catalyst 7.11 drivers, but it is still exactly the same :( (also lost 40+fps on stress test?)

The stutter seems to be every second or 2, but it is constant and is really annoying to have to ALT+TAB out just to fix it.

Also on OpenGL games like Quake3 it is ok, no stuttering or anything.

hmm I guess no-one has had this problem? :(

I might try the omega drivers later just to see what happens. Seems strange that it puts itself right after alt+tab

edit: I just put on the omega drivers and the same thing is happening :( seems really strange

I think it might be time for a windows re-install :(

I tried re-installing directx, re-installing .Net 1.1 SP1 and even disabling the ATI Hotkey thing (and using ATITrayTools to do the 3D/2D clocks). But still seems to be the same.

Not too impressed with the new drivers either, CSS stress test on the old 7.2's got 312fps but on the new cat 7.11's and omega 7.10's it's only 252fps

Try again after the windows install and then judge the new drivers as it could be something hogging your system resources somewhere thats making things slowdown in games.

hmm I just uninstalled the omega drivers using the omega uninstaller to put on the old 7.2's (to get the fps back) and now I have the 7.2's on I started CSS and it works
Not sure what happened but so far it seems ok :) I just hope it isn't a freak occurence or even intermittent.

I had already installed the 7.2's 3 times before and it did nothing but maybe the omega uninstaller was better than the ATI one  :D
