I am trying to update my Boss's graphics driver on his Acer Aspire 1800 laptop as his was ancient (6.14) and it was struggling with an Open GL program.

I uninstalled the driver and cannot get any later drivers to install, it just says it cannot find compatible hardware, Ive tried the 7.7 driver the latest 7.12 driver (but apparantly it doesnt support AGP) and the Omega versions of the 7.12 which adds AGP support.

Ive even tried re-installing the 6.14 from Acers website, the driver installation seems to complete but on reboot it says the catalyst software cannot be started as there is no driver

Its ages since i have used ATI at home, and vagely remember problem like this.

Any ideas ? my boss isnt happy with me atm lol

yeah, downloaded the mobility version. On that link you provided there is a validation checker, i run it on his lappy and it says the driver is not compatible :(

Ive used driver cleaner to get rid of all ATI but it still wont install any drivers. All I get is the default VGA compatible card.

That worked thanks m8, when i saw mobility in the filename i knew it was different to the many othes i tried before. I did always search for x600 mobility but the drivers obviously where the desktop versions.

my boss will be happy tomorrow when he gets in.

:)
