OK, using my new GFX card as my Geforce 6600 GT 128 wasn't going to be good enough to run Oblivion

I have not got a ATI X800 PRO 256 but in the Oblivion options it says HDR un supported, so i have got Antialiasing 6 samples on.

Why would my old card support HDR and not my new one? Am i missing out on some better looking GFX? GFX card came OEM so no manual. Sorry :(

There are different methods to implement HDR

The most common method makes use of SM3 unfortunately which the X800 series does not support

HL2 uses a different method which doesn't require SM3 so you can get HDR on the X800 series of cards

So what do we do?

Should i put my XFX GeForce 6600 GT 128M back in?

Is the antialiasing just as good? Bit of a n00b whe it comes to GFX cards...

Stick with the x800pro. The 6600GT isn't fast enough to offer good performance with HDR enabled so people with any sense would have it disabled anyway.

Look at this this way, you may not be able to use HDR, but this will allow you to use higher resolution/AA/AF.

Its a hardware limitation on the X800 cards. I think Oblivion is meant to be able to do HDR under SM2.0. On the PC oblivion cant run HDR and AA at the same time. Stick with the X800 as its the faster card.
