ATI X800 help...

Hello i have one of these cards and have done sinc etheir release, ive always been able to use steam with this card and now it seems all the games that use the HL2 engine are not working. The game loads up then crashes out straight away. With a HL2 error message.

I have recently completed Episode 2 on the same drivers i have now (cat 7.7) is there any known issue with steam or any windows updates that may have caused problem?

What does the message say? It's probably more likely down to changes in your OS.

'Engine Error' box comes up saying. 'Platform Error: module failed to initialise'

I know someone running on an X800 XT who had impossible steam issues. A full format and install was needed to fix the issue.

Ive tried doing that on a friends machine who has an almost identical setup to me and had no luck.

I cant beleive there isnt a fix for this im appauled...

Or is there?

Try updating your drivers as they are around 9 months out of date

Aren't Ati still having issues of some kind with later drivers and AGP cards (which this card could well be) ? Probably better off trying older drivers if anything.

@OP - Tried re-installing the drivers your currently have? Tried driver cleaner and re-installing?

Maybe, but I can't see any harm in trying the latest driver considering the fact he's playing a modern game engine (updated Source).

Right i have tried installing the latest drivers.

Reinstalling the old ones,

And even going back to 7.6 rather than 7.7 with a driver cleaner between each transaction.

But all they all give me the same error messages?

What you guys reckon now?
