hi, i`ve just got my hands on a ati radeon x800 pro pci-e 256mb,

now it came oem, so only got the card, the dvi/vga adapter, and the tv out cable, i`m needing a power cable arent i?

will this work?

I don't think you need the extra power for the x800 mate. It should work when you plug it straight into your board.

hmmm, really, cos when i stuck it in and started it up, it wouldnt post, then would beep and restart.

i thought lack of power.

it`s pci-e checked that before i stuck the card in, she`s only recently bought it, just looking for the manual to see if it mentions anything about minimum PSU

Hmm...

I may possibly be wrong about the external power. Hopefully, some other person will be along to verify this for me. You could increase the voltage slightly in bios (if you know how) which may fix the problem for you. Other than that, that connector would be the one you want.

Have you uninstalled the old card drivers and installed the new one for the x800 and also updated your mobo bios? The computer may think a different card is in...

thanks Nix for your thoughts, i`ll have a further fidle, and try sort this out, otherwise i`ll just get one of the cables, and see if that works.

Try the card in another machine if you can, at least that way you can rule out if it's the card or not.

Some PCI-e X800 Pro's need one, some don't. Can you actually see a space on your X800 pro where a 6 pin Power cable should go in?

Mul

when i forgot to connect the power cable to my graphics card on a asus x800 pro, it came up on screen saying please connect it, and also beeped. So it may be a borked card if you havent managed to get it working yet.

Yea the above is true. When I plugged in my AGP X700 Pro, I didn't realise it needed a connector and so just turned my PC on. It POSTed and then brought up a screen saying 'Plugin the graphics power conenctor' :p Problem solved.
