Just been to an ATI dev chat and had a lot of oppourtunity to ask ATI a lot of my questions specially about crossfire here is the chat log for any one interested;
cv1jeff: now that Vista RTM has been released, can we expect a driver that adds openGL support sometime soon?
Yes, we will be releasing support for different products at different times but watch the drivers early in the new year
ATI Essa: Question:
l0stpr0phet: So no solid ETA on a Vista driver with openGL support?
Answer:
Right now there is no solid date. All we can see is that its coming down the pipes
ATI Peter: Question: [email protected]: Can we expect to see any external ATI graphics systems in the near future....so users could buy one "unit" and game on multiple pc's + laptops?
ATI Peter: Answer: sorry we can't comment on any future product plans
ATI Peter: Question - [20ID]Sterex: How much better than the G80 is the R600 going to be?
Answer: you already answered it Tom|Nbk
ATI Essa: Questions?: Bryn - How lame is it?: What is ATI's take on PhysX and do they have any plans to move into a direction like that with future cards?
Answer: I would suggest keep your ears open to sometihng new and exciting from AMD
ATI Essa: Question: Bryn - How lame is it?: any infomation about the r600?
Answer: Read the Inquirer - www.theinq.com
iziuh: Question: MatriX: Im getting guild wars fractions how goods the graphics and i heard you can only get to lvl 20 is it still good?!! to the guild wars people?
iziuh: You can check out screen shots of Factions, and Nightfall on our website www.guildwars.com as for level 20 guild wars is designed to have a low level cap in order to allow people to play in PvP
cv1jeff: Question: Tom|Nbk: Will more support for crossfire be added as all crossfire users have at the moment is a tick box to show its working some more features would be great.
Yes
arenacolin: arenacolin: Question: [email protected]: When developing a game such as guildwars, user feedback is obviously crucial, can we expect to see public beta testings of future updates / patches?
arenacolin: arenacolin: Answer: For each major release we've done, we have had multiple free beta preview weekends where anyone, both those who have Guild Wars accounts and those who do not, join in testing part of our new release. I would anticipate you'll continue to see this trend for our future releases as well.
ATI Essa: Question: Tom|Nbk: Is EATM feature coming in Catalyst 7
We have not announced any EATM feature as of yet
cv1jeff: Tom|Nbk: Will the ATI Control panel be changed to the green colours off AMD or is it sticking to red?
Answer: Green is the new Red
But I know of no plans to make this change yet
iziuh: Question:
Cannon: What influenced you guys in creating the two new characters for nightfall?
iziuh: Answer: When we look at new profession, we pull a lot from games we've played and look at how they could fit into our game. Also when we're designing classes we always come up with fun new ideas and save them for future campaigns
ATI Essa: Question: [email protected]: Why do most cards benchmark lower with latest ATI drivers? is this an artificial indicator of performance?
Answer: Which GPHX cards and benchmark apps are you referring to?
cv1jeff: Question: Tom|Nbk: What new Crossfire features do ATI have planned Driver wise?
Answer: We can't pre-anonunce everything, we like surprises as much as you
iziuh: Question: Cannon: Did it take a ridiculous amount of time to desgin and edit all of the buffs for the characters?
ATI Peter: Question - [email protected]: Are users not better off buying one top end ATI card, rather than 2 mid range with crossfire? Performance + cost wise?
Answer - this is an "it depends" question/answer - budget is a big factor, as is your genre of game. If you can afford it, go big! If not, it makes very good sense to get a balanced system with a matched pair of graphics and an appropriate CPU. You can get awesome image quality and performance from mid-range CrossFire and CPU
iziuh: Answer: We spend a lot of time creating, tweaking, and balancing our skills and something that takes a lot of time to get right. We also update our skills after we release them to keep the game balanced
ATI Peter: Question - 20IDSterex: Is the ATi branding, logo, and familiar color scheme going to disappear in the near future?
Answer - no, but we have updated our logos for graphics and CrossFire, as seen in the Xfire ads!
ATI Essa: Question: Tom|Nbk: Essa we want more crossfire support

ATI Essa: I am told yes there will be...
ATI Essa: Questions: Tom|Nbk: So you have said there is going to be more Crossfire features, although you can't preannounce anything is there an ETA on these features.
No ETA...
ATI Essa: No announcements with respect to EATM
ATI Essa: But I am happy you think it works good
arenacolin: Question: For the Guildwars Gurus: what are your favorite characters to play as?
Answer: I prefer playing a Mesmer, in particular in PvP. I really enjoy the challenge of being skilled at using interupt skills in particular. It takes a knowledge of all the skills in the game so you know what you need to interupt, how long each spell takes to cast to know when to interupt it, etc. Generally just the amount of thought required to play a Mesmer well really draws me toward th
ATI Essa: Question: Orako: Im looking to update my card. How good is the ATI SAPPHIRE RADEON X1600 PRO 256M AGP for its price?
SWEET
ATI Essa: Wait... get a X1650
ATI Essa: Better yet... get an X1950
ATI Essa: Sure for MSRP
cv1jeff: Question: [email protected]: How closely do graphics companies, such as ATI work with game developers?
Answer: This is my job along with a team of people. We are dedicated to game developers and publishers such as ArenaNet and all of your favourites (even some of the ones you despise). We have a wide variety of programs we offer to assist in making your experience with ATI Radeon Graphics and games the best it can be
ATI Essa: Question: Orako: What card would you recomend for a 200 USD price range?
Radeon X1600 PRO
cv1jeff: Question: Tom|Nbk: the x1900 series has more shaders than pipes but current games don;t see much boost in speed over the x1800xt bar oblivion.
would there be a bigger difference between the x1800 and x1900 in future games?
Answer: The X19xx series offer a 3:1 ALU:TEX ratio compared to the X1800s 1:1 ratio. As games take advantage of this in their shaders the performance gap will increase.
ATI Essa: Question: Orako: Computer Question: Lately my compture says I have 50 Gigs used when I KNOW I don't, if I go Disk CleanUp and removed all system restores, will that mess with anything on the comptuer its self?
Answer: Tap your feet several times and chant the following: I want to go home, I want to go home. That might help LOL
ATI Essa: Question: the sectre: whats the difference between nvidia's SLI and your crossfire?
Answer: The difference is only 6 letters. Seriously... We have opened our technology to a wider range of platforms. This is one of the reasons why so many are adapting the CF technology.
ATI Essa: Question: [email protected]: Since we are nearing the end...a good open question for the ATI guys: "Why ATI over competition?"
Answer: We have two colors and they only have one
cv1jeff: Question: Tom|Nbk: Will the Intel 965 Chipset (ASUS P5B Deluxe) be supported any more i know you recently added performance improvements but im still slightly let down by the performance, anything else planned?
Answer: We have worked hard on the 965 chipset support to be able to offer higher performance already. We will continue to search for more optimizations but don't expect miracles.
ATI Essa: Red and Green vs Green only HMMMMM
cv1jeff: Question: Tom|Nbk: What kind of FPS does crossfire 1900 get in Crysis have you had the oppourtunity to test this?. and crossfire 1950xt
