Ive always wonderd why it is so special to people and they are always looking for it.
What is that all about? Why do people think it will be the greatest find the world has seen if they find it
Can someone tell me what its all about please :o

Wow these threads are flowing thick and fast today!
I recall reading..sometime....somewhere... about a place...somewhere... that there is a sunken city believed to be Atlantis.
Actually I think I have videos backed up on a cd somewhere about it...
I'll be right back

edit: curses it appears I dont have it...

Just another one of those with legends or stories surrounding it like Troy etc, I somehow doubt that there would be anything life changing found if ever they did :)

I am sure that it was announced in the not to distant past that, the city of Troy has been rediscovered, in Turkey.

I think its mainly because it was supposedly full of riches and gold, that the reason it was picked out at first, then it just became the main one people have heard about. People believe the pillars of herculiese (think thats what they are called) are the straits of gibralter and that atlantis just past those in the atlantic. People also believe it is near crete and there are some that believe it is near bemuda and the caribeean. Thats why the bemuda triangle is so dangerous, because of some magical power supply they had. :D

Bermuda's Triangle phenominom is nothing more than nature at work.
Theres quite a few under water volcanos in the area that release a lot of large air pockets, that often hit boats, and depending on the boats mass and where it was 'hit' can cause it to capsize.
:)

Its more than that. They've downed planes too.

I read a really interesting book on the bermuda triangle a year or so ago, it talked about aliens, atlantis and sea monsters. Then it got all serious about the real reasons, as BOOMam said, its mainly to do with the instability of the sea floor, causing boats to suddenly hit air pockets and sink like a stone. The theory in the book about the downed planes was that they are struck by water tornadoes. The magical power supply sounds better though. :p

Regardless of what its downed or not. Its still nothing more than nature at work.
Not supersticious rubbish as many belive.

I think the stories of atlantis are twisted versions of the truth. By that I mean it's based on events that may have happened but not neccessarily in the way they are described. Also it may refer to several places and events that have been mixed up and people thought they were one and the same. From reading the wikipedia link it sounds like there are several possible places where the stories originate from. Crete sound like quite a plausible place.

I remember reading something about a mistranslation and it actually meant a city that had a lacking in water and the city pretty much dried up and everybody left or died.

I don't really hold much to these stories, but it'd be nice if they did find some kind of lost city somewhere, as it's been done a few times through history and just recently in Iran.

The reason I said Troy is because I worked about 20mins down the road from those ruins several years back and yeah some people have since decided it is Troy, but the supposed discovery of this famed city has made no difference to anybody.

That was sort of the point I was attempting to make :)
