Atos subcontracts disability tests to NHS, what is the point of teh government using ATOs if they are going to end up using the NHS.
Shows me that the hundreds of millions paid to them is a waste of time and money.

Atos, the French outsourcing company hired to carry out the government’s new disability assessments, has subcontracted much of the work back to the NHS.

NHS Trusts including University College London, Kings and York will deploy thousands of health professionals to carry out the assessments, which will determine whether people are entitled to extra money to help cope with disability.Critics said the decision to subcontract work back to the public sector raised questions as to why Atos was needed.

of course. this is what the government is good at. outsource something that could've been done here anyway but get the business back in a roundabout kind of way.

Surely it is retarded though? Instead of giving the money directly to the NHS it goes from goverment to ATOS who take thier profit and then to the NHS.

So ATOS gets money for nothing basically.Who runs ATOS then? I know they are french which is ringing alarm bells for me as if we wanted to use Freedom of information act to see who thier main shareholders are or who profits from ATOS we cannot as they would not be required as they are french :p

What is the odds cameron and his cronies make money from investing in ATOS? I may be wrong but i smell a rat.

Also why use a french firm over a UK firm.Should the Taxpayers money really be spent on making money for a french company?

You can't use FOI on them because they are not a public organisation, not because they are French. You can't make an FOI request to Dyson, either.

Surely this is a good thing for the disability tests though? It's better for NHS health professionals to be conducting the tests than ATOS i'd have thought. ATOS aren't exactly popular due to the way they've apparently been conducting the tests.

France's private sector will nearly operated the entirety of the UK plc within a few years at this rate...

It wouldn't be so bad if all the profits for nothing were staying in the UK, but really, they aren't.

WHy not just take ATOS out of the supply chain altogether if all they are going to be doing now is acting as middleman. Complete waste of taxpayers money!

ATOS are a disgrace. Why the work shy remain work shy they have been responsible on many occasions of declaring genuinely dieing people fit for work. Some have even died a day after their medical and had scored 0 points.

Surely a patients GP is the best to declare whether somebody is fit or not.

After a major foot operation on both feet I had to attend an ATOS medical. In fact it was done at home as I wasn't mobile enough. I was found to be fully mobile and they claimed I had been observed climbing stairs, I live in a ground floor flat.

Their report left me penniless and terrified about what was going to happen to me at a time I really needed help.

Yet others in my area who are obviously fit for work and do various cash in hand jobs fly through the medicals by simply claiming mental illness.

They should be replaced IMO.

They shouldn't have even been given the contract. They're not a medical organisation and they're there just to make money from what I gather. I'm registered disabled and I'm due for reassessment in 2015. At the moment, I can see 2 things going against me. The first is that I'm not wheelchair bound and the second is that I work.

To put it bluntly, ATOS are ****

Atos do healthcare. Way before this was announced. I would image that's why they have the contract. Not only that they do a lot of work for the government in other sectors.

For the record, I work for Atos looking after the IT for Department of Health.

Atos.. meh. That pretty much sums up my feelings to most of the contracts I see them awarded with, 9/10 usually get subcontracted to another company and they take their cut. Not sure why local councils or the NHS feel the need to do this.

I have found the DWP to be fine. I am reluctant to claim for a benefit that I am probably legally entitled to, though, because of Atos. I do tend to go my own way in life though, and I take the minimum from the government.

Is it a cost to us or like G4S contracting the Army is it going to be a loss to them?
If Atos are paying more to the NHS than they're getting paid (which isn't unlikely), then each assessment they use the NHS for will be a net cost to them.
