I have just parted with not far shy of 250 notes at my local ATS for a new exhaust and two front tyres for my (do't laugh) 1.2 Fiat Punto.
The exhaust was fitted a week past Friday and almost as soon as I drove off the forecourt it was banging, clunking popping and spitting. Stuck with it for a few days but finally took it back in yesterday, at the same time (more fool me) buying two new front tyres as the tread was on the minimum. They had the car on the ramp for about 20 mins fiddling around with the exhaust but when I drove away it seemed worse not better...
Oh and £80 buys you two dubious generic tyres of an unheard of Eastern European (Serbian I think) manufacturer - they didn't even have any brand names in stock.
No wonder there wasn't a queue. I used to think Kwik-Fit were bad with their pushy sales and, "You'd better take a look at what we found, sir", approach but ATS seem plain incompetent.
I had to feel sorry for one guy who came in after me and was being quoted £600 for a new set of brake discs and pads on a Toyota Corolla. I sure hope they do a better job of fitting than with my exhaust. At that price he would be better off going to a nomal garage!
