Attaching extra case fan causes Windows to crash.

Hi guys,

Bit of a noob, so please excuse me.

I bought an extra 120 case fan (Arctic Cooling F12, I think), but upon attaching it to the cable coming from the motherboard that is powering two other fans (and some LED's I think), Windows crashes.

Having turned the PC on after attaching the new fan, Windows goes well for about 5 minutes, but then completely freezes, seemingly indefinitely, and I just have to flick the power switch.

Does this make any sense to any of you? I thought that maybe I was trying to draw too much power from one slot on the motherboard. Could that be right?

Thanks everyone

That's the only explination I can think of... seems strange

Do you have a local computer shop near you to pick up a cheap molex to fan adaptor to try?

Had the same thing happen when I first setup a Gigabyte P55 motherboard some time ago. It was caused by connecting too many fans to the motherboard header. I contacted Gigabyte and they quoted a maximum load of 1 Amp. Having kept within that limit I've had no problems since.
